Man Arrested In Long Beach On Suspicion Of Attempted Robbery Of Bank
LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A 40-year-old man Thursday was jailed in lieu of $50,000 in connection with an attempted robbery of a Bank of America branch in Long Beach.
The incident at the bank in the 600 block of West Willow Street occurred about 12:35 a.m. Tuesday.
"The suspect entered Bank of America and presented a demand note to one teller, and then another note to a second teller indicating that he had a bomb," according to a statement issued by the Long Beach Police Department.
Bank employees notified police who established a perimeter. The suspect was taken into custody as he exited the bank, police said.
"The bank's premises and the suspect's belongings were searched; however no explosive devices were found and no money was taken from the bank," the statement said.
Police said the suspect, identified as Garrick Thomas of Long Beach, was booked on suspicion of robbery. He was being held at Long Beach City Jail.
