Man Arrested In Killing Of 1-Year-Old In Compton

COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — A 23-year-old man is behind bars on suspicion of killing a 1-year-old girl in Compton two weeks ago.

Ray Patterson was arrested around 2:30 p.m. Monday near Bullis Road and Rosecrans Avenue in Compton, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Patterson is being held without bail.

On Feb. 9, a blue Chevrolet Impala stopped in front of a converted garage on North Holly Avenue. A man got out and opened fire, authorities said.

Autumn Johnson was sleeping in her crib when she was shot in the face and killed. Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related, and the infant's father was likely the target.

Deputies are still looking for the driver.

News of the arrest came just hours after the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors added a $25,000 reward for information leading to the girl's killers. The city of Compton and the FBI have also posted $25,000 rewards each, for a total reward of $75,000.

Anyone with information is urged to call sheriff's homicide Detectives Jonas Shipe or Todd Anderson at (323) 890-5500 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
