Man arrested for looting Camarillo home in neighborhood hit by Mountain Fire
A man was arrested for allegedly looting a Camarillo home that was under an evacuation order due to the devastating Mountain Fire over the weekend.
According to a statement from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, the victim of the theft had arrived outside of his property on Friday while riding an electric bicycle.
"He parked his bicycle on his driveway and walked around his front yard. While doing so, he noticed the neighbor's landscaping crew was in the neighborhood," the statement said.
After returning to his driveway, he found that the bicycle was missing, deputies said.
"Due to the timing and proximity of the theft, he confronted the landscapers."
One of the landscapers admitted to taking the bike and returned it to the victim after retrieving it from the enclosed trailer it was being stored in.
The next day, on Saturday, members of the department's Sheriff's Tactical Response Team were doing patrols in the area because it was under evacuation order.
They stopped to speak with the victim, who informed them of his bicycle's theft the day prior.
"Upon further investigation, the deputies identified the suspect as Ramon Avila Pacheco," the statement said.
He was located and arrested in the area of Temple Avenue and Aloha Street in Camarillo. Pacheco was booked for looting.
