Man arrested for deadly Santa Monica shooting in January
A man was arrested in connection with a deadly shooting in Santa Monica back in January, police said on Sunday.
The original incident happened at around 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 15 in the 200 block of Broadway near Second Street, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.
Through their investigation, detectives determined that an unidentified woman was in an argument with a homeless man in the area just moments before 27-year-old Inglewood man Fabian Mendez approached.
Police say that Mendez chased the man into the middle of the road and shot him in the back.
"The suspect was last seen running northbound in Alley 2 and out of sight," SMPD said at the time in a statement.
After weeks of searching for the gunman, police arrested Mendez on Tuesday. He was charged with homicide and is being held in lieu of $3 million bail.
