Man Accused Of Three Orange County Rapes Behind Bars
IRVINE (CBS) — A 29-year-old man was behind bars Thursday on suspicion of sexually assaulting three women in Newport Beach and Irvine between May 2005 and July of last year.
Travis Dewayne Batten Jr. was arrested Wednesday after a detective noticed a report of a suspicious subject near where the rapes occurred, Irvine police Lt. Julia Engen said.
Investigators had trouble finding him because his face was masked and the DNA and fingerprints collected at the crime scenes did not match anyone in law enforcement databases, Engen said.
Irvine investigators set up surveillance in the area and gathered evidence that led them to Batten.
After getting his fingerprints, they saw that his matched the prints from the May 2005 assault.
Batten is being held without bail.
