COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — A 35-year-old man was charged with murder Monday for allegedly killing a 17-year-old girl whose burning body was found in a South Los Angeles street last September.
Damond Williams was arrested Thursday in connection with the Sept. 17 incident on Grand Avenue, north of 94th Street, the District Attorney's Office reported.
The victim's name was Terrey Wright, according to her mother, Selamawit Bean.
"I am so happy (that the suspect has been arrested). My prayers were answered. I know those detectives worked so hard," Bean said.
Williams was also charged with the 2007 assault and rape of a woman identified as "Patricia B."
He's facing one count each of assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, forcible rape, sodomy by force and forcible oral copulation.
If convicted of all the counts, Williams faces a maximum sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole.
