Man, 29, Suffers Severe Burns In Explosion At El Sereno Home
EL SERENO (CBS) — A 29-year-old man has been hospitalized with second and third-degree burns following an explosion at his home in El Sereno.
The incident, which was reported at 2:08 a.m. Saturday, took at a home in the 2900 block of North Lowell Avenue, said Los Angeles fire Capt. Rick McClure.
"There was some type of explosion, and windows were blown out, but there was no big fire," McClure said, adding that arson investigators were going to the scene.
Firefighters had the natural gas supply shut off shortly after arriving.
The man's wife and daughter were in the home at the time but were unharmed. According to authorities, they were in a different area of the home at the time of the explosion.
The man was taken to the burn care facility at County-USC Medical Center with burns over about 35 percent of his upper body. He was listed in critical condition.
City Fire spokesman Brian Humphrey said inspectors from the Los Angeles City's Department of Building and Safety were dispatched to the scene to evaluate the home's structural integrity.
