Chinese Tourist, 28, Killed During Robbery In West Covina
WEST COVINA (CBSLA.com) — A 28-year-old Chinese tourist was fatally wounded by robbers at a shopping center, according to West Covina police.
Investigators say Sheron Khemlani and his brother were walking out of a restaurant at 2:30 p.m. Friday when they were approached by two men in the parking lot. The shopping center is located in the 100 block of N. Barranca Street.
The suspects mugged the brothers and Khemlani sustained a head injury, police reported. He was taken to an area hospital where he died.
Investigators have not yet elaborated on how Khemlani was injured.
The victim's brother suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital. His identity was withheld.
The alleged robbers reportedly fled to a waiting car.
Officers said they have little in the way of suspect descriptions. They're evaluating surveillance video from nearby restaurants to see if they can gather more information.
People at the shopping center say they're surprised by the violence.
"It was really sad and scary, because I come here all the time with my family," San Dimas resident Carmen Hughes said.
"It's kind of a disheartening thing. You figure you're going to go out and have dinner, and, next thing you know, somebody doesn't come home," West Covina resident Tom Wick said.
