Man, 23, Killed After Slamming Into Tree On 57 Freeway On-Ramp

ORANGE (CBSLA.com)   —  Authorities said a 23-year-old man was killed when his car slammed into a tree on the side of a freeway on-ramp in Orange.

The crash occurred about 3:10 a.m. on the southbound Orange (57) Freeway north of Chapman Avenue, said California Highway Patrol Officer B. Brassiuer.

CHP officers and Orange County Fire Authority paramedics responding to the crash scene found a Scion on its side over the dirt embankment "with the entire roof crushed around a tree," Brassiuer said.

The driver was the Scion's lone occupant. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Brassiuer said.

The CHP has not determined what caused the man to drive off the road, Brassiuer said.

The victim's name was not released pending notification of his next of kin.
