Man, 22, Held For The Stabbing Murder Of His Grandmother With BBQ Fork
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles police have announced the arrest of a 22-year-old man for the stabbing murder of his grandmother inside her Mission Hills home.
Joe Calderon is accused of murdering the woman who raised him by stabbing her with a barbecue fork.
The unidentified woman was in her 70s, according to police.
The deceased lived in the home with the alleged murderer and his grandfather.
"It's always especially sad and tragic when a child kills the person who raised them," said Lt. Paul Vernon, commanding officer of the Mission Detective Division.
Officials said the grandparents and Calderon argued on Saturday night but the fight ended when they all went to bed.
After the grandfather went to work this morning, the argument between Calderon and his grandmother continued and escalated.
Sometime before 9 a.m. when police were called, the grandmother called a daughter and told her Calderon was hitting her.
The daughter drove to the home, near San Fernando High School, to check on her mother.
When the woman arrived, she was reportedly confronted in the front of the home by Calderon who was holding a long metal stick. The woman went around the corner and called police.
Officers arrived and detained Calderon who allegedly had blood on his hands.
Calderon was booked for murder. His bail was set at $1 million.
