Man, 22, Charged In Fatal Stabbing Of Jobs Corp Counselor
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Charges were filed Friday against a 22-year-old student for the fatal stabbing of a Hollywood-based Job Corps counselor.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Shelly Torrealba ordered Freddy Leyva to remain jailed on $1 million bail pending arraignment March 26.
The murder count includes the allegation that Leyva used a knife to kill Dwayne Alexander. (The victim's age has been given as 48 and 59. Friday, CBS2/KCAL9 confirmed with the coroner that Alexander was 49.)
Leyva allegedly stabbed Alexander multiple times before other residents subdued and disarmed him at about 4:40 p.m. Wednesday at the facility in the 1200 block of North Lodi Place,
Levya was arrested soon afterward by officers of the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood Division.
He faces up to life in prison if convicted, according to the District Attorney's Office.
