Malibu Marathon Shuts Down Most Of PCH
MALIBU (CBS) — The second annual Malibu International Marathon is drawing roughly 2,500 runners to the seaside city Sunday to compete in a full marathon from Camarillo to Zuma Beach.
Because of the marathon, motorists planning to take Pacific Coast Highway between Santa Monica and Ventura County will want to find an alternate route. The marathon will block much of Highway 1 west of Malibu for most of the day.
The marathon's course is taking runners from the flat farmland near Camarillo down PCH, past Malibu's spectacular views of the ocean, to Zuma Beach, near Trancas. A half marathon will begin at the halfway mark, Point Mugu.
Unlike other triathlons and similar events on PCH in Malibu, this marathon will completely shut down the southbound road at some points, particularly along the two-lane section of PCH between Point Mugu and County Line Beach. Closures and restrictions will be in effect until 3 p.m. Sunday.
Malibu city council members have said they will monitor the traffic impact of this year's marathon, which is five times larger than the inaugural event last year.
Marathon organizers expect to have PCH reopened at 3 p.m. A map of the marathon course is posted online.
