Loved Ones, Locals Grieve After Family Of 5 Killed In Hesperia Crash

HESPERIA (CBSLA.com) — Loved ones of the family of five victims killed in Sunday's deadly car crash in Hesperia spent Monday in grieving.

The collision happened just before 7 a.m. Sunday in Hesperia at Main Street and Balsam Avenue, when a van smashed into a blue Honda sedan, that was stopped at a stop sign.

Angelica Garcia, her boyfriend Gerardo Jimenez, and their three children, Ivan Jimenez, 2, Freddy Garcia, 9, and Cindy Jimenez, 5, were all killed in the crash.

The family of five were on their way to Disneyland for the day to celebrate Cindy's birthday when the van smashed into them.

"They took my whole family," father Quinino Garcia said. "They left me with nothing."

A vigil was erected at the sight where the deadly accident occurred.

Among the attendees at the vigil were local residents who say they didn't even know the family, but were heartbroken to hear of Sunday morning's event.

"I'm a mom," resident Yevette Cervantes said. "Last Mother's Day I went to Disneyland with my family, and it was just really sad to see that they couldn't do that. They didn't get a chance to."

Authorities say the van landed on top of the Honda after the initial contact was made, killing everyone inside.

The driver of the van escaped with minor injuries.

"He's my angel now, he's going to take care of me from the sky," Freddy Garcia's father Orlando said. "I laid in his bed, and I figured 'Oh, I do have a heart still', because I didn't feel it the whole day until I laid in his bed, and that's when I felt my heart pumping. It's very hard to lose a son, especially your only one."

The driver of the van has reportedly been cooperating with investigators, and has not been charged.
