Lottery Hunts For Winner Of Unclaimed Half-Million-Dollar Prize

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Lottery officials are releasing surveillance photos in hopes of identifying and locating the man who purchased a winning lottery ticket.

The California Lottery's efforts at publicizing security photos of lottery winners who had not previously claimed their prizes have already helped two people realize and make their claims. Now, they are hoping the same process will identify a man whose claim on a nearly half-million-dollar prize is running short on time.

"We're looking for the guy all over the place," store manager Jesus Garcia said.

That search has now gone on for five months.

The Powerball ticket was purchased on May 22 and matched five numbers out of six, earning the ticket-buyer $465,539 in prize money.

The ticket can be cashed in until 5 p.m. on Nov. 18. If that deadline passes without the prize being claimed, the money will be distributed to public schools.
