Los Angeles School Scores Rise In Statewide Testing
LOS ANGELES (AP) — State test scores are up for children in the nation's second-largest school district despite drastic budget cuts and teacher layoffs in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Results released Monday show schools statewide posted gains on annual California standardized tests. The state Department of Education oversees annual English and math testing in grades two through 11.
In Los Angeles, the rising scores comes during an era of school district reforms.
Still, low-performing schools are still low-performing and there are achievement gaps between low-income black and Hispanic students and their white and Asian counterparts.
