Dr. Darren Sush, Psy.D., BCBA-D, is a licensed clinical psychologist, board certified behavior analyst and owns his own practice. He provides individual, couples and group psychotherapy, and specializes in working with parents of children with autism and special needs.

Dr. Sush graduated from The American School of Professional Psychology in Washington, DC, with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.). He also has a master's degree in psychology from American University and is also a board certified behavior analyst.

What are the scope and responsibilities of your current role?

"I currently own and operate a private psychology practice in Los Angeles, California. I believe, everyone faces daily obstacles, yet, at times, these increased challenges can result in overwhelming anxiety, depression, self-doubt and sadness. I have seen that by receiving the support you need, you may not only help face your everyday challenges with an improved sense of confidence and positivity, but may achieve a more balanced and healthier life. Within therapy, I  encourage my clients to express their concerns, worries, frustrations and achievements in a sympathetic, non-judgmental and collaborative environment."

What is your favorite part of your daily duties?

"Throughout my career, I have recognized the benefit of the guidance, comfort and empathy of therapy that supports an individual's or couple's unique experiences and struggles."

Do you feel your education prepared you for your current role?

"I have received superior training and education to help identify and treat individuals in need of support, guidance and therapeutic services. My training and experience provide therapy for individual adults and children, couples and groups within the community. Mental health centers, private practices and inpatient psychological facilities have been critical in helping people from all walks of life, with all levels of psychological needs to meet their full potential and experience healthy and satisfying lives."

Do you have any advice for people who desire to pursue a similar career?

"The field of psychology is extremely diverse, which provides those who are interested in pursuing a career in mental health with a wide variety of avenues and directions. However, the unifying factor amongst psychologists is the ultimate goal of helping and supporting others within and across communities.

Just as I have discovered and developed my specialty as a psychologist providing therapy for parents of children with autism and special needs, entering and studying within the field of psychology allows you to not only discover and pursue your passion and interest, but also apply the knowledge, skills and experience you gain toward reducing the stigma of mental illness."
