LA City Council To Consider Easing Regulations On Marijuana Dispensaries
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles City Council will review a proposed ordinance that would ease its tough new regulations on medical marijuana dispensaries.
The city attorney on Wednesday will submit a draft to the council, which could give a preliminary approval and set up a final vote next week.
An ordinance passed earlier this year would have shut down roughly 400 dispensaries around Los Angeles. Clinics ordered to close have filed dozens of lawsuits.
The amendment would allow as many as 140 pot clinics to remain open.
The hearing comes a day after the council tentatively voted to seek a tax on pot clinics. If the council gives final approval next week, a measure would be placed on the ballot next March asking voters to approve a yearly tax of pot clinics' earnings.
