Long Beach Hosts World Cup Viewing Party For USA Vs. Belgium

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Team USA will be back on the field Tuesday, taking on Belgium in the World Cup.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. as the American team makes their first appearance in 12 years in the Round of 16.

Belgium and the U.S. have not faced off in the World Cup since the first tournament in 1930, where USA won 3-0.

Viewing parties will be held across Southern California, including in downtown Long Beach on Pine Avenue between Broadway and 3rd Street.

The first-ever World Cup watch party in Long Beach started with the Argentina vs. Switzerland game at 9 a.m. and will be followed by the U.S. match.

"We got here so early, we want to make sure we got a good spot," soccer fan Katie Lee said. "We're all going to be together routing for america, we're going to win today for sure."

Both games will be displayed on a giant LED screen with live music and DJs entertaining the crowd.

Pine Avenue businesses, including those that typically operate exclusively during the evenings, will open their doors and feature promotions and specials, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Viewing parties will also be hosted by the LA Galaxy in Redondo Beach at Veteran's Park and at Downtown Disney.
