Long Beach St. Gives North Carolina A Scare
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP)— Freshman Harrison Barnes had 19 points and 10 rebounds to help North Carolina beat Long Beach State 96-91 on Saturday night.
Larry Drew II added 11 of his 13 points after halftime for the Tar Heels (7-3), who blew most of a 17-point second-half lead before holding on for their third straight win.
Leslie McDonald added a career-high 17 points and hit five 3-pointers, with most of that coming in the first half.
North Carolina can point to one of its best offensive performances of the season as the reason for this win. The Tar Heels shot 56 percent, went 11 for 23 from 3-point range and had a season-low 11 turnovers.
But their defense didn't do much against Robinson and the 49ers, who shot 52 percent and hit 10 3s.
