Long Beach Police Chief Addresses Community About Murder Of 3-Week-Old Baby Girl

LONG BEACH (CBSLA..com)  — The Long Beach Chief of Police planned to meet with the community Thursday to discuss a variety of issues including use of force, alleged police brutality and community policy.

But KCAL9's Stacey Butler reported Robert Luna mostly centered on one topic: Eliza De La Cruz, the 3-week-old baby who was found murdered in a San Diego dumpster on Sunday.

The previous day, a kidnapping and murder suspect shot Eliza's mother, father and uncle before snatching the baby.

The community forum was held at Antioch Church on Grundy Avenue. The church is in he same neighborhood where the little baby was kidnapped.

"Maybe we missed something, maybe somebody came back from vacation. Somebody out there saw something," Luna said.

Since the shootings on Saturday and the discovery of the baby's body on Sunday, police have been working around the clock to develop leads.

At the community forum, Luna urged the community to become actively involved in policing.

He's hoping that involvement and concern for the community will help police catch the baby killer.

"At this point," Luna said, "the information that we have is very difficult to come by, it's still very frustrating."

He added that despite the frustration, he is confident authorities will crack the case.

"Our intent is to arrest whoever did this and we have no doubt we will get them," Luna said.
