Long Beach Man, 25, Killed In Wrong-Way Freeway Crash
TUSTIN (CBS) — A 25-year-old Long Beach man was killed Saturday when he drove his 2008 Nissan Altima the wrong-way on the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway, according to authorities.
Another motorist suffered major injuries in the Tustin crash, according to a CHP officer.
The wrong-way motorist was driving south in the northbound number three lane of the 55 near East Santa Clara Avenue about 2:55 a.m., the officer said. His vehicle hit a 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan driven by a 23-year-old La Palma woman, the officer said.
The 25-year-old man, the lone occupant inside his car, died at the scene. Paramedics rushed the La Palma woman, suffering from major injuries, to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. She was also the lone occupant of her vehicle.
It was not immediately known why the motorist was driving southbound on the northbound freeway.
The name of the deceased will be released pending notification of next of kin, according to the Coroner's Office.
