Local Artist, 15, Gets Taste Of What It's Like To Be An Entrepreneur
EXPOSITION PARK (CBS) — With every sketch, 15-year-old Sarady Merghani has a story to tell.
She had an idea to help the visually impaired with art. She personally watched a cousin, Wa-ehl Al-Hitter, lose his eyesight.
"When I'm inspired that's art."
Art with some commerce mixed in. Sarady has her sights set on helping the visually impaired.
"If I see smile on someone else's face and I caused it.. I'll just be like 'Oh,'" she says.
Sarady began to envision something else. Her invention is called "Feel Your World."
"People visually impaired feel things to know what they are," Sarady explains.
The first prototype is in the works but the kit would include a Braille canvas and special pens. "When you're drawing a circle, you're able to feel the circle."
Through a youth service called Girls Inc., Sarady got the idea to enter her kit in Warren Buffett's Secret Millionaires Club's "Grow Your Own Business Challenge" sponsored by CreditReport.com.
It's an online contest for kids to submit entrepreneurial ideas. And out of more than 3,000 entries? Guess who's in the final running to present their idea to Warren Buffet himself?
Yup! The $5,000 top prize would be nice. But, to meet one of the richest men in the world? Priceless. "The honor to meet him and sitting at the same table as him... it's just like ...Oh!"
But Sarady says what would be truly an honor is to see the visually-impaired -- like her cousin -- have the passion of art return to their lives.
Voting for finalists begins Monday.
