Little's Free Throw Lifts No. 4 Kansas Past UCLA
LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -- Mario Little hit a free throw with seven-tenths of a second remaining, lifting No. 4 Kansas to a pulsating 77-76 victory over UCLA on Thursday night, extending the Jayhawks' team-record string of homecourt wins.
Tyler Honeycutt had 33 points for UCLA, including a 3-pointer with 5 seconds to go that tied the score between two of basketball's most storied programs at 76-76.
But Malcom Lee was called for a foul when Little attempted a desperation heave and the officials, after conferring at the scorer's table, sent him to the line.
He made the first foul shot but missed the second. Honeycutt's cross-court hurl toward the UCLA basket was off line, giving the Jayhawks (7-0) their narrowest victory in a 64-game home court winning streak.
Joshua Smith, the 305-pound center for the Bruins (3-3), made life miserable for the Jayhawks inside and had 17 points.
