Legendary Beatles Producer George Martin Dies At 90
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Sir George Martin, considered one of the greatest record producers of all-time, has died at the age of 90.
Considered by many as the "Fifth Beatle", Martin produced and arranged most of the band's songs and suggested they replace Pete Best with Ringo Starr.
The news of Martin's death was initially reported by Starr, who rose to fame as the band's drummer, and later confirmed by Adam Sharp, a founder of CA Management.
Sharp said in a statement that Martin passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday evening.
"The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and messages of support," said Sharp, adding that Martin's family has asked for privacy.
No further details were released.
"God bless George Martin," Starr wrote via Twitter. "Peace and love to Judy and his family love Ringo and Barbara George will be missed xx."
British Prime Minister David Cameron also shared his condolences on Twitter.
During his career, which spanned seven decades, Martin scored several movies and worked with Ella Fitzgerald, Kenny Rogers and Celine Dion, among others.
