LAX Sees Increase In Passenger Traffic
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — If you fly in and out of Los Angeles International Airport, you're not alone.
Nearly 63.7 million people flew through LAX in 2012, which was about 3 percent more than the previous year.
Gina Marie Lindsey, the executive director of Los Angeles World Airports, said the bump in passenger travel was due to a stronger economy and more international service.
"The increase in passenger activity at LAX is attributable to airlines starting new international service, an improving Asia-Pacific regional economy, and a modest but perceptible strengthening of the Southern California economy," said Lindsey.
The airport also reported a 5 percent increase in air cargo—from 1.87 million tons in 2011 to 1.9 million tons in 2012.
LAX is the third busiest airport in the country and the sixth busiest in the world.
