Lawsuit Challenges Annexation Of Sunset Beach
HUNTINGTON BEACH (AP) — Some residents don't like Surf City USA's takeover of the 85-acre unincorporated community of neighboring Sunset Beach.
The Orange County Board of Supervisors voted Nov. 23 to approve Huntington Beach's annexation of the coastal burg. A consultant study shows annexation is financially feasible and will bring in at least $624,000 in property, sales and occupancy taxes.
But the Citizens Association of Sunset Beach, a band of annexation opponents, has filed suit to scuttle the takeover. The Los Angeles Times says they don't like the prospect of new taxes that will be imposed when they become part of Huntington Beach.
KNX 1070's Mike Landa reports one board official says the fear of higher taxes is overblown.

Orange County Local Agency Formation Commission officials say they will wait to complete annexation until at least Jan. 19, when a hearing on a request for a preliminary injunction is scheduled.
