Lawmaker Wants Apology For Obama-Hitler Comparison
SACRAMENTO (AP) — A Jewish lawmaker wants an apology from a conservative state assemblyman who compared President Barack Obama's gun control policies with those of dictators such as Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin and North Korea's Kim Jong Il.
Sen. Marty Block, a Democrat from San Diego, said Wednesday that Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, a Republican candidate for governor, should apologize to millions of people hurt by the Holocaust "and to countless American heroes and their families who battled evil during World War II."
Block is chairman of the Legislative Jewish Caucus but was speaking only for himself. He called Donnelly's Twitter message a day earlier an "odious trivialization of Adolph Hitler's brutalities."
Donnelly is from the San Bernardino Mountains community of Twin Peaks. His campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
