LAUSD: Tarzana 4th Grader 'Referred For Expulsion' After Bringing Gun To Elementary School

TARZANA (CBSLA.com) — A fourth grade student was removed from his San Fernando Valley elementary school earlier in the week after bringing a weapon to campus.

Officials confirm the boy brought a weapon to Nestle Avenue Elementary School in Tarzana on Wednesday, but would not specify whether it was a gun.

The male student was detained after a school employee witnessed him attempting to hide it in a gutter. Witnesses told CBS2/KCAL9's Dave Lopez that the weapon was a gun, but its not known if it was loaded.

District officials say the weapon was never pointed at a child or adult, nor was brought into any classroom.

Principal Cheryl Gray-Sortino notified parents via an audio message.

"The safety of our students is always our top priority. No one was injured. Students and staff are safe on campus," she said in part. "I want to assure that your child is safe and that we remain vigilant in providing a secure learning environment."

No one was injured in the incident, and the school routine was not interrupted, according to the Los Angeles Unified School District.

The student has been referred for expulsion from the District as required by the state's zero tolerance policy.
