LAUSD Molds Tech-Minded Students For Higher Education
When utilized appropriately, new technologies motivate children and teens. They allow developing minds to become active producers, by fostering creativity. Children that have yet to cut their permanent teeth are becoming adept with cameras and editing software. The digital age now has a permanent seat in classrooms within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), where the learning process includes ingenious ways to help students become more proficient in such studies as math, language, social studies and science.
"LAUSD is infusing technology into the curriculum across all content areas, from kindergarten to twelfth grade," said Neil Virani, a special education teacher at William Mulholland Middle School. "Students are learning more effectively through the utilization of the latest technology tools, transforming them into innovative thinkers and designers on the path to higher education."
Why is it imperative for young minds to adapt to technology?
"It is crucial for primary and secondary students to embrace technology as a central learning tool, in order to develop the digital literacy skills necessary to progress in 21st century universities and workplaces. Our students must comprehend the value of technology as a learning tool and gain all the technology skills necessary to compete in our global economy."

"Technology-based education provides our students with the advantage of learning through multiple modalities and allows for active participation in interactive and stimulating classroom lessons. Technology-based lessons allow students to think critically and connect with lesson content in individual ways, resulting in increased levels of motivation to learn in the classroom."
