Last Phase Of 'Fire Goats' Set To Clear Brush At Reagan Library
SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Visitors to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley will see an unusual sight Friday.
The final delivery of Spanish goats will arrive at the library as part of the Ventura County Fire Department's vegetation management program.
Up to 150 goats will graze in front of the Reagan Library's Air Force One Pavilion to help reduce the severity of fires by removing excess fuel while maintaining the natural appearance of the landscape.
The goat program - which is organized and funded by the Fire Department - is part of an ongoing 10-year partnership with the Reagan Library.
Last May, about 900 goats were brought in to clear 40 acres of brush, which, according to officials, plays a key part in fire prevention because of the library's fire-prone location.
