LASD arrests suspect wanted for pursuit, assault with deadly weapon, possible DUI

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies were in pursuit of a suspect wanted for a reported assault with a deadly weapon.

Authorities were originally dispatched after reports of a person driving erratically, and when they arrived they learned that the vehicle was possibly stolen.

During the course of the pursuit, the suspect supposedly rammed into the deputy's vehicle. He is also wanted for possibly driving under the influence.

The chase began just before 7:15 p.m. on 259th street, when authorities engaged with the driver of a black Honda Civic.

At 7:34 p.m. the pursuit went into slow pursuit. as the suspect's vehicle could be seen driving at an incredibly slow speed, dragging his bumper behind him.

Nearly half a dozen law enforcement vehicles could be seen trailing the suspect, who continued to flee at extremely slow speeds.

A number of attempted PIT maneuvers failed to stop the vehicle, as it continued to move on, leading authorities through the Lomita, Wilmington and Harbor City.

At least one of the vehicle's tires was completely shorn due to running over a spike strip.

The suspect finally stopped just after 8:30 p.m., and was promptly surrounded by sheriff's deputies.

He was reportedly taken into custody on Anaheim Street and Vermont Avenue in Harbor City just before 9 p.m., after a considerable amount of time where he was not compliant with law enforcement's demands for up to 20 minutes. Authorities took the man to a nearby medical center for treatment, and to determine if he was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

According to Lt. M. Nyberg of the Lomita Sheriff's Station branch of LASD, charges including assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, grand theft auto and felony evading were among the many the suspect faced for the incident.
