Investigation Underway In LAPD-Involved Shooting In Van Nuys
VAN NUYS (CBSLA) -- A Los Angeles Police Department investigation was underway Friday after police shot and injured an armed assault suspect in the Van Nuys area, authorities said.
The shooting occurred just before 11 a.m. near Sherman Way and Hayvenhurst Avenue, according to the LAPD.
The LAPD says the suspect had been driving a White Chevy Silverado.
According to police, he went to his estranged wife's home first and the family called for help in what was reported as an assault with a deadly weapon.
The suspect allegedly pulled out a gun on the estranged wife's family and threatened to kill them.
Officers later found the suspect at the woman's workplace, which is at a shopping center at corner of Havenhurst Avenue and Sherman Way.
"The suspect was still inside the vehicle. They ordered the suspect to exit the vehicle. When he exited the vehicle he was still armed with a handgun. And at that time, there was an officer-involved shooting," said Detective Meghan Aguilar with the LAPD.
The suspect was struck by gunfire and sent to the hospital for treatment.
No further details were released on the suspect's condition, but authorities said he is expected to survive.
Officers on-call were wearing body cameras and investigators have collected footage to determine exactly who was involved in the shooting.
Right now the department is working to determine if the suspect fired his weapon.
Per LAPD policy, video evidence in this incident will be released to the public within 45 days.
