Man, 57, Attacked During Carjacking In San Fernando Dies
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 57-year-old man has died after police say he was attacked during a carjacking over the weekend.
Dario Rosas was carjacked and beaten to death outside his San Fernando home late Saturday night.
"I don't understand why this happened and I don't know why. They didn't have to beat him like they did. They didn't," said Virginia Kelly, the victim's sister.
Kelly described Rosas as a good man who kept to himself and worked hard as a security guard at a nearby hospital. He also took care of his mother, who is disabled.
Detectives say Rosas was coming home from work around 11:30 p.m. July 18.
When he exited his car to open his front gate, he was attacked.
Police say the suspect then took off in Rosas' car.
Rosas was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
"I'm just hoping that after the first few blows that he was unconscious and didn't know what else had hit him," Kelly said.
Detectives say the victim's car was later found in Panorama City and has been impounded by authorities for evidence, checking for fingerprints.
Family members say they think this was a random attack and said Rosas didn't have any enemies.
Police said it's not known whether the victim and suspect were acquainted.
"You didn't have to kill him," said Kelly in a message to her brother's attackers. "You knew what you were doing. You knew you wanted him dead because of the way he was beaten."
No arrests have been made.
