Andrew Johnson told authorities that he was "missing an engagement ring that he just left in his car an hour prior."
Johnson was planning on proposing to his girlfriend of four years, Kate Kodet, that night at a Christmas party.
The officers inconspicuously returned the ring to Johnson without Kodet's knowlege.
He proposed that night. She said yes.
The suspects, identified as Zachary Wolf, 20, and 22-year-old James Wagner, were arrested and booked for felony grand theft at LAPD Metropolitan Jail Section.
