LAPD Officer Accused Of Hitting Teen Relative For Poor Grades

FULLERTON (CBSLA.com) — The arraignment of a Los Angeles police officer accused of child abuse has been pushed back to May, the Orange County District Attorney's office said in a written statement on Friday.

Daniel Hun Chun is expected to be arraigned on May 6, on felony charges of child abuse and corporal injury on a child.

The 39-year-old man is accused of repeatedly striking a teen relative for poor grades and behavior, the statement said.

Authorities allege that the March 13, 2014, incident left welts and bruises on the unidentified teen. At the time, Chun was off-duty.

"A school counselor noticed the child's injuries and reported it to police," the statement said.

If convicted, Chun could serve a maximum sentence of six years in state prison. Chun was currently out on bail.
