LAPD Investigating Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Rapper T.I.
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Rapper T.I. is under investigation by Los Angeles police in the wake of numerous accusations of sexual abuse against him and his wife in multiple states.
The LAPD confirmed Monday to CBSLA that it is investigating sexual assault allegations against the 40-year-old T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, but could not immediately confirm whether his wife, Tameka "Tiny" Harris, is also under investigation.
The exact details of the allegations or the investigation was not disclosed.
Back in March, an attorney who represents 11 alleged victims said T.I. and his wife have been accused of several incidents of sexual abuse and assault in Georgia and California, The Hollywood Reporter said at the time. The alleged crimes occurred between 2005 and 2018.
Attorney Tyrone A. Blackburn also alleged that the couple were involved in crimes including kidnapping, false imprisonment, intimidation and harassment.
One alleged victim spoke to LAPD detectives in April regarding allegations of an assault that occurred in 2005, and a second alleged victim filed a report with similar allegations to Las Vegas police, the website Daily Beast reported.
T.I. and Harris released the following statement through their attorney Steve Sadow Tuesday:
"The Harrises have not spoken to or been contacted by the LAPD, the Las Vegas Police Department or, indeed, any member of law enforcement from any other jurisdiction in the country. Even assuming the story in the Daily Beast is close to accurate, it appears the LAPD "accuser" has chosen once again to remain anonymous, thereby preventing us from being in a position to disprove or refute her allegations - or even examine them. Meanwhile, although we now appear for the first time to have the name of an "accuser" who supposedly filed a police report with LVPD, we have absolutely zero details about her or her claim."
Tameka Harris is a member of the multi-platinum R&B vocal group Xscape. She received a Grammy in 2000 as one of the three songwriters of 1999's best R&B song, "No Scrubs."
T.I. has not been charged with a crime but he remains under investigation by the LAPD.
Right now, the state of California does not have a statute of limitation in reporting or prosecuting a rape case if the crime occurred after 2017 when the law changed.
