LAPD Detectives Hope To Catch Killers Before July Murder Becomes Cold

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) —  LAPD Homicide Detectives plan on holding a news conference Tuesday to step up efforts to catch two suspects in the murder of a Victorville man last month.

The murder occurred in the parking lot of a 7-Elevent located at Venice Boulevard and 12th Avenue on July 12.

The victim, 21-year-old Dejon Ward, had apparently become lost and drove into the parking lot to review his directions.

Two suspects -- parked in the same lot -- exited their gray or silver Nissan Armada and approached the victim, shooting and killing him.

Suspects then fled in their vehicle.

On Tuesday, the Wilshire Area Commanding Officer will give an overview of the events leading to the homicide and announce a reward.

At the time of the murder, police said the victim just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"He wasn't involved in any criminal activity. He was not armed. He did not become involved in a fight, he was not involved in even as much as an argument in this incident," Capt. Lillian Carranza said.
