LAPD Chief: Northridge Kidnapping Suspect Spotted In Mexico
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Northridge kidnapping suspect Tobias Summers has been spotted in Mexico, Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said Friday.
Summers, 30, is wanted for the sexual assault and abduction of a 10-year-old girl from her Northridge home on Mar. 27.
His accomplice, 29-year-old Daniel Martinez, was arrested Monday and has been charged with kidnapping and burglary.
According to Beck, Summers was spotted on surveillance video late last week. An exact date is unknown.
Kidnapping Suspect
"He was seen crossing a footbridge into Tecate from the United States," Beck said at a news conference Friday.
Authorities have been concentrating their search in San Diego and the Mexican border in recent days.
"We have no way to know whether or not he has returned since that journey, but we are focusing our efforts on that region," Beck said.
The LAPD is working with the FBI and Mexican officials to apprehend Summers.
