Lancaster Man Charged In Murder Of ATV Rider
LANCASTER (CBSLA.com) — A Lancaster man was charged Friday with murdering a man who was riding his all-terrain vehicle in the desert, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.
Deputy DA John Evans said Arturo López, 38, is charged with one count of murder with an allegation that he personally and intentionally used a rifle to commit the crime.
Additionally, the defendant faces three counts each of possession of a firearm by a felon with one prior. In 1997, Lopez was convicted for unlawful driving or taking of a vehicle.
On Feb. 24, Stephen Finson, 47, was returning home from riding an ATV and taking pictures in the desert near East Avenue H when he was shot to death by López, Deputy District Attorney Evans said.
If convicted as charged, López faces 25 years to life in state prison.
López is scheduled to be arraigned on May 8 at the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Antelope Valley.
Authorities have not revealed a motive for the murder.
Bail has been set at more than $2 million.
