Home Invasion Robbers Told Victims They Were Sheriff's Deputies
LANCASTER (CBSLA.com) — A couple of armed men reportedly staged two home invasion robberies Saturday night in Lancaster.
The suspects wore ski masks as they barged into a home at 10:10 p.m. in the 3600 block of West Avenue K-15, according to Los Angeles Sheriff's Sgt. Bryan Riley.
The suspects kicked down the door yelling, "Los Angeles Sheriff's Department! Get on the ground!"
A man living at the home fled with his 10-year-old son into a bedroom and called police.
At 11:25 p.m., the suspects did it all over again at a home in the 5700 block of Spice Street.
This time though, the resident turned out to be a retired LA County detective.
"The homeowner was able to fire two rounds and scare them off," said Riley, who didn't know if the suspects were hit.
Witness descriptions of the suspects were vague because of the masks.
Authorities did not detail what was taken from either home.
Investigators are concerned that the robberies appear to be random.
"In many home invasion robberies the victim knows the suspect," Riley said.
