Lakers President Jeanie Buss Acknowledges Love For TV's 'Big Brother'
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — As the house guests plot and scheme (and generally do so in little clothing), it's not hard to understand why devoted fans of CBS' venerable "Big Brother" love watching the show so much.
Except for one year, it's been a summer phenomenon for 16 seasons, and a guilty pleasure.
One major businesswoman is not afraid to acknowledge she's caught up in the drama.
Lakers co-owner and team President Jeanie Buss says she loves the program. In fact, Buss says "Big Brother" is her favorite show.
She told ESPN Radio 710, "One of the things you can learn from 'Big Brother' is that you might be on top one minute, but one event can happen and all of a sudden, you're low man on the totem pole again and you can't burn bridges."
Two weeks ago, one of the house guest's grandfather died, and when he got a group hug from the rest of the cast, even people who aren't aligned with him ... well, there wasn't a dry eye in "Big Brother" nation.
Buss tweeted that night, "Nice moment on Big Brother with Frankie and the house guests! It's a game but it's also life. Bittersweet."
Understatement. The moment was one of the most poignant moment's in the series history and thousands took to social media to say so. Incidentally, Frankie, a YouTube personality, is also half-brother to singer/actress Ariana Grande of "99 Problems" fame.
For people not familiar with the show, 13-16 strangers are locked in a house — actually, a stage at CBS — and one by one each week, they vote each other out until the final two vie for a $500,000 prize. Not only that, they know nothing about what's happening in the outside world, except family tragedy. No newspapers, TV, electronic devices, radio. They are totally cut off from the outside world and watched 24-7, even while sleeping and showering.
The show's motto, "Expect the unexpected," rarely disappoints. In past seasons, contestants have included ex's, estranged family members, surprise twins, all-stars and rivals.
