Lakers Notes: Joe Smith Should Be Ready For Friday
(CBS/The Sports Xchange) -- Joe Smith will report to the Lakers on Thursday and take his physical, which means he should be available for the game Friday night in Philadelphia.
Whether the Lakers suit him up is another question, as they could go with rookies Devin Ebanks and Derrick Caracter until Smith settles in a bit. Theo Ratliff has been the other Laker on the inactive list lately because of his knee injury.
--G Kobe Bryant will be honored at his high school on Thursday, with the new Lower Merion (Pa.) High School gym named after Bryant.
He will appear at the school for a ceremony and said he keeps in touch with some members of the faculty still, including basketball coach Gregg Downer.
--F Lamar Odom tied his season high with 17 rebounds Wednesday in Indiana. His numbers figure to decline eventually once Andrew Bynum gets back into his groove, but for now Odom is still starting and standing out as a multi-purpose big man.
Odom is shooting 58.6 percent from the field with 3.2 assists per game.
