Lakers Honor 3 American Heroes Who Foiled Terrorist Attack On French Train
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday evening honored the three American heroes who foiled a would-be terrorist attack on-board a train in France on August 21.
Spencer Stone, Anthony Sadler and Alek Skarlatos received their honors before the game, and were each presented with honorary Lakers jerseys.
"This is my first Laker game, I just got to meet Kobe Bryant," Stone said. "Mrs. Buss presented us with the jerseys, it's just been such a great experience."
"I'm on cloud 9 right now," Salder added. "This is all like a dream for me. I couldn't be happier."
KCAL9's Brittney Hopper said the men were honored before and during the game.
The three -- longtime friends -- also got a standing ovation from the crowd. And Hopper said the crowd went wild
Stone, Sadler and Skarlatos were visiting Paris this summer when they boarded the fateful train. A heavily armed man came aboard with eight magazines worth of ammo and the three risked their own lives to take him down.
The men received France's highest honors.
"I think it was just kind of a kill of be killed situation. It was either we do something or potentially the worst could happen," said Sadler.
The men got court side seats and got to meet all the players.
The men told Hopper that the recent terrorist attacks in Paris weighed heavily on their hearts.
"They just have to keep faith," said Skarlatos.
Stone -- an airman first class in the Air Force -- was slashed with a box cutter on the train in France and was also stabbed several times last month after trying to break up a bar fight in Sacramento but he told Hopper he's fully recovered.
