Lakers G Nick Young's House Burglarized Of Nearly $100K During Game
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles Lakers guard Nick Young's house was burglarized as he played in an game at Staples Center against the Orlando Magic on Sunday night.
The burglary claimed nearly $100,000 worth of goods from the home, according to Young, including jewelry, luggage, clothes and shoes.
Young, who appeared to be in good spirits at practice in El Segundo on Monday, said that he called police at 2 a.m. after returning home from the Lakers' 103-94 win over Orlando, in which the guard scored 26 points off the bench.
When Young returned home after the game, he found broken glass and drawers open, according to reports.
But the basketball player also admitted to CBS2/KCAL9's Jim Hill that matters could have proven much worse.
"I feel like, 'why would somebody do this to me', you know, " Young told Hill. "I was just more happy that nobody was in the house, because it probably could have (gone) wrong, I think, if my son had been in the house, or something."
Young has since vowed to be particularly vigilant around the home, and he is not the first resident in the neighborhood to be burglarized.
"There were some houses that had been broken into," neighbor Nina Kellogg said. "It's highly possible, if people knew where he lived, they certainly knew where he was; he was playing basketball, he wasn't going to be home."
