Lake Fire North Of Santa Clarita Now 85 Percent Contained
SANTA CLARITA (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters Saturday made progress as they battled a brush fire north of Santa Clarita.
The blaze dubbed the Lake Fire was 85 percent contained, as of 5 p.m. Saturday.
The fast-moving broke out Friday afternoon near Castaic Road and quickly spread to 600 acres. At last word, the fire had scorched 712 acres.
The flames at one point got dangerously close to Northlake Hills Elementary School, prompting officials to place the campus on lockdown.
Nearby homes on Elk Ridge Road and Vista Point Place also had to be evacuated.
Residents were allowed to return to their homes approximately four hours later.
A spark from a car is blamed for igniting the fire.
