1 Dead, 1 Injured After Small Plane Crashes Near Air Field In La Verne
STUDIO CITY (CBSLA) — On person is dead and another injured after a small plane crashed near an air strip in La Verne Sunday evening.
The crash involving a single-engine Cessna 177RG was reported at around 6 p.m. The pilot was "practicing approaches" into Brackett Field Airport before the aircraft crashed into a nearby plant nursery, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The woman who survived was taken to a local hospital for her injuries, which were described as "serious." Her condition was unknown Sunday night.
The fact that the plane landed in the nursery proved somewhat difficult for the rescue team.
"One of the biggest issues that we had in this instance is access," La Verne Fire Battalion Chief Robert Russell told CBS2 News. "It was located in a nursery, so finding out the precise location other than a report from the tower of where it was on the airfield, gaining access to both the aircraft for both fire suppression and rescue activities."

The plane is registered to a man in his 60s, though it is not clear if he was the pilot.
The crash is being investigated by La Verne police and fire, the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board.
