LA Schools Rehire 450 Laid Off Elementary School Teachers
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Unified School District says it has rehired 450 elementary school teachers who were laid off in June after reviewing vacancies across the district.
The district announced Thursday that a combination of retirements, resignations, dismissals and a four-day furlough agreement with the teachers union allowed the district to rescind the layoffs.
The district has re-employed 4,170 of the teachers and support personnel who were laid off in June due to state funding cuts. About 1,450 teachers and other staff remain laid off.
