LA Regional Food Bank Campaigns For Donations On 'Giving Tuesday'
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank Tuesday asked the public for food and monetary donations as part of the national "Giving Tuesday" campaign.
"In LA, one in six people report going hungry," spokesperson Jennifer Errico said.
"Giving Tuesday" was established in 2012 by the United Nations Foundation and New York City's 92nd Street Y.
Now in its second year, the event encourages the public to donate to more than 7,000 charities in all 50 states and to spread the word through the Twitter hashtag, #GivingTuesday.
The LA Food Bank distributes 1.1 million pounds of food each week through 670 agencies in the Southland.
According to officials, another 900 charities remain on the waiting list for food.
"Every $1 donated to the Food Bank feeds four people," officials said.
The food bank hopes to raise $10,000 Tuesday.
