LA Police Search Train For Suspicious Baggage

VAN NUYS (AP) — Los Angeles police stopped and evacuated an Amtrak train in the San Fernando Valley when concerns were raised about a passenger, but officers found nothing suspicious.

Police Lt. John Romero says the investigation was spurred by a woman who boarded the train in Simi Valley late Saturday night. He says a person who accompanied the woman but did not board with her said something to a train employee about the woman and her bags, and the employee called authorities.

The train was held in Van Nuys for about two hours while officers checked baggage, but they found nothing irregular and it was allowed to move on.

Romero says the woman was not arrested and will not be charged.

He did not know how many passengers or train cars were involved.
