LA Mayoral Hopefuls Cast Their Ballots
SHERMAN OAKS (CBSLA.com) — LA's mayoral hopefuls are out in force this election day, encouraging voters to cast their ballots.
"The message for voters today is please get out and vote," City Controller Wendy Greuel said. "It is important. Your everyday lives are impacted by who is on the ballot today."
All the mayoral candidates, including Greuel, cast their own ballots in their home districts. Greuel voted in Studio City with her husband and son by her side. Former city councilman Eric Garcetti cast his ballot at Allesandro Elementary School with his wife. Greuel and Garcetti are considered the front runners for the mayor's office.
"The fact that we are running neck and neck when she has $3 million more says a lot about this campaign and what we've put out there," Garcetti said.
Radio talk show host Kevin James, who is also the lone Republican running for mayor, cast his vote at the Hollywood Temple Beth El.
"There is a viable alternative today," James said. "I provide the new leadership that you are looking for."
Councilwoman Jan Perry and former technology executive Emanuel Pleitez also wrapped up their campaigns at their local precincts.
"I want to make history today, to make sure that our vote turns out," Perry said.
"It's time for us to vote, and show this city that we have the power and want to take our city back and take it in a new direction," Pleitez said.
Turnout is expected to be low, and although voters we talked to at this polling station in Sherman Oaks didn't seem to be thrilled with the candidates, voting, they say, is a civic duty.
"We went over the ballot together and we said we know what she does, we know what he does etc., and let's get some new people in because they are just going from one position to another position to another position," voter Claudia Katz said.
